(Law students do not need to fill out the Graduate School's degree forms. Law students who are graduating with dual degrees (e.g. MBA, MSW) may need to fill out these forms. Eligibility

Commencement for the School of Dental Medicine will take place Saturday, May 12, 2008 at 5:00 P.M. in the Center for the Arts on the North Campus. A reception for the graduates and their families will immediately follow the ceremony. An informal reception will also be held on Saturday from 11 am – 1 pm at Squire Hall on the South Campus for families to tour the school.

Students who have been recommended for graduation by the Executive Council of the School of Dental Medicine are eligible to participate in the Commencement exercises. Unless notified otherwise, the School anticipates that all D.D.S. students will participate in the ceremony.

Graduating students who have a relative who are alumni of the School, are invited to don cap and gown, march in commencement and participate in hooding.

Masters and Ph.D. students whose degree has been conferred in the past year or anticipate receiving their degree by June 1 are eligible to participate in the commencement ceremony. Please contact the Dean’s office for additional information.

FAQs

How long is the ceremony? Approximately two hours.

Do I need to register? You do not need to register. Unless you inform us that you will not be attending, we expect you will be participating in Commencement.

How many tickets am I allowed? We do not issue tickets. We ask that each student limit their guests to 8-10 people.

What time do the doors open? The doors will open 1/2 hour before the ceremony.

Is the Center for the Arts handicapped accessible? Yes, it is. Ushers will assist with the seating of handicapped guests. If a handicapped person needs to be dropped off at the door, please speak with one of the University Police to allow access to the circle in front of the Center. This is only to drop off - parking around the circle is not allowed.

Parking? Parking is allowed in the parking lots as designated.

How do I order my cap and gown? Through the University Bookstore on the North Campus, beginning February 1. The last day to order a cap and gown is March 2. Academic regalia is required to march at commencement. When ordering the hood, DDS students should specify "Dentistry". Masters and Ph.D. students would specify either Masters or Ph.D. See Cap & Gown information section.

What if my relative is participating in Commencement? If your relative is an alumnus of the dental school, they are eligible to participate in the Commencement ceremony by hooding you when your name is called. They will need to wear the academic regalia (so you may want to order theirs at the same time you order yours). They will be placed in the processional and sit on stage with the faculty.

Where do I report and when? Report to the Drama Theater in the basement of the Center for the Arts by 4 pm.

Will we receive further instructions? Last minute instructions will be e-mailed in the beginning of May.

How will my name appear on my diploma? You should check with the Student Affairs office of the dental school to confirm how your name will appear on your diploma.

When and where will I receive my diploma? Student diplomas should be available by mid-June for June 1, 2008 Conferral. Graduates may pick up their diplomas or it can be mailed. This information will need to be indicated on the, "School of Dental Medicine Outprocessing form." Any questions regarding this can be directed to Academic and Student Affairs.

Is the ceremony videotaped or is there a photographer? There is no official photographer, nor is the ceremony videotaped. Families are welcome to do so on their own during the ceremony, respecting the occasion and the logistics of the event.
