Remember: All undergraduate students, and certain graduate students, must complete and file an Application for Degree Form ("degree card") before February 1, 2008. (Law students do not need to fill out the Graduate School's degree forms. Law students who are graduating with dual degrees (e.g. MBA, MSW) may need to fill out these forms. Eligibility

Commencement is intended and scheduled for all students completing graduation requirements in September ’07, February ’08, and June ’08. All students planning to graduate this coming May must confirm that all degree requirements have been met with their respective departments. Students should verify receipt of their application for degree or approval of candidacy by checking the degree section of their "My grades & GPA" link through MyUB. Diplomas will be mailed to degree recipients after degree candidates have been certified.

Also, candidates who plan to attend the ceremony must complete an on-line registration form by Monday, February 25. The School will assume that you do not wish to participate in the ceremony if you fail to submit a completed registration.

Tickets are NOT required for your guests and you are welcome to invite as many as you would like. Students are responsible for making travel and lodging arrangements for their guests and are encouraged to make reservations as soon as possible.

Participating undergraduates must purchase a cap with a GOLD tassel and a blue gown from the UB Bookstore on the North Campus. Graduate students must also place their regalia orders through the UB Bookstore.

Registration

Graduating students who wish to participate in this ceremony must register online. Students who wish to participate in this ceremony must pre-register by February 25.


FAQs

How long is the ceremony? Approximately two hours.

Do my guests need tickets to attend the ceremony? No, you are welcome to invite as many guests as you would like.

Do I need to register for the ceremony? Yes, students are required to complete an online registration form by Monday, February 25. Register online.

Is the Center for the Arts (CFA) handicapped accessible and is special handicapped seating provided? Yes, it is. There will be many ushers on site to help facilitate seating in the special reserved handicapped seating sections.

Do we need to make prior requests for handicapped seating? No, once your guest(s) arrive on site, ask any of the ushers to assist in being seated.

Where do my guests park? Enter the University through the Coventry entrance off Millersport Highway.

Are individual names announced? Yes, alphabetically by degree.

Where do I first report and when? A reception for the graduates and their guests will begin at 4:30 pm in the CFA atrium. Graduates will report to the Black Box Theater in the basement of the CFA by 5:15 pm for seating assignments.

Will further instructions be received by students? Additional instructions and reminders will be sent through UB email.

How do I order a cap and gown? Bachelor’s degree students will need to purchase their cap with a gold tassel and blue gown from the University Bookstore, located on the North Campus. Master’s degree and Ph.D. students will also need to order their regalia through the University Bookstore.

I will not complete my degree by June 1. May I still march in the ceremony? Yes, your name will be announced and be printed in the program if you have plans to finish your degree over the summer.

When will I receive my diploma? The Student Response Center mails all diplomas to your PERMANENT ADDRESS within six weeks of commencement.

Is the ceremony videotaped and available for purchase? No, professional taping will not available for purchase.

Will there be a professional photographer at commencement? No, professional photographs will not be available for purchase.
